What tandem parking is
A tandem bay is a stacked or shared space: one car parks behind another, so the driver on the inside cannot leave until the driver on the outside moves. Tandem bays nearly double the capacity of a site, but they only work if the two people using the bay can coordinate.
Setting your typical departure time
In your preferences you can set a typical departure time of early, normal or late. This tells the engine when you usually leave the office on a parking day.
- 1Open your preferences.
- 2Find Typical departure time.
- 3Choose early, normal or late โ whichever best matches when you usually leave.
How the engine places you
When two people share a stacked space, the engine compares their departure times and places the earlier leaver in the outer spot. That way the person leaving first is never blocked in by someone who is staying later. One exception: a member who needs accessible parking is never placed in the inner spot, regardless of departure times.
| Person | Typical departure | Where they are placed |
|---|---|---|
| Alex | Early | Outer spot โ can leave freely |
| Jordan | Late | Inner spot โ Alex moves first |
Keep your departure time accurate
If your habits change โ a new school pickup, a different gym class โ update your typical departure time so the engine keeps placing you correctly.
Sharing your mobile number
You can optionally add a mobile number in your preferences. If you are allocated a tandem space, your number is shared only with your tandem partner for that day โ nobody else in the organisation can see it. It exists so the two of you can text or call to coordinate arrival and departure times.
Sharing is optional
You do not have to add a mobile number. If you leave it out, coordinate through whatever channel your team already uses.
Tandem etiquette
A few simple habits
Text your partner when you arrive and when you are leaving. If you are running late, say so early. If you need to leave at an unusual time, give your partner plenty of warning so they can move their car. And never park in the inner spot if you are the earlier leaver โ the placement exists so both of you get out on time.

How fairness works
The weekly allocation gives priority to people who have parked least in the last 30 days, with allowances for leave, accessibility needs and preferences.
