SMS quota and troubleshooting
How the monthly SMS allowance works, what the skip reasons mean and what to check when members are not receiving texts.

How the monthly allowance works
Each organisation has an SMS allowance that is measured per calendar month and shared by everyone in the organisation. It resets at the start of each month. The Standard plan includes 100 SMS per month and the Pro plan includes 400; the Free plan has no SMS at all.
Only two kinds of message are counted: the weekly allocation text a member receives after a run, and the decision text for a park request. Every message actually sent draws on the allowance, whether it is a weekly summary or a request decision.
When the allowance runs out
Members never miss information. Once the allowance is exhausted, everything that would have been a text is sent by email instead, until the allowance resets at the start of the next month.
Worked example
Say 20 members have opted in, and the allocation runs each Monday. Each week that is one weekly text per opted-in member, plus the occasional request decision text. Over a four-week month that is roughly:
- 20 members x 4 weekly runs = 80 weekly allocation texts
- Plus request decision texts through the month, typically a handful
- Total of roughly 100 texts in the month
That fits the Standard plan allowance of 100 per month exactly. If your runs happen more often, your team grows, or request decisions are frequent, keep an eye on usage and consider the Pro plan, which includes 400 SMS per month.
Reading the post-run banner
After each allocation run, Admin, then Allocations shows how many text messages went out as part of that run, in the form of a count labelled SMS sent next to the run summary.
SMS monthly limit reached
If you see a red warning reading SMS monthly limit reached, those members got email, it means the allowance was exhausted during that run. Any member who would have been texted received their notification by email instead, and will continue to do so until the next calendar month begins.
Skip reasons
When a member does not receive a text, one of four things caused it. ParkShare checks these reasons in order at send time and uses them to decide between sending and skipping — the red banner shown after a run tells you when the monthly limit was the cause:
| Skip reason | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| no-opt-in | The member has saved a mobile number but has not ticked the opt-in box on their Preferences page. | Ask the member to tick the SMS opt-in box in Preferences. |
| no-mobile | The member has ticked the opt-in box but there is no mobile number saved on their Preferences page. | Ask the member to save an Australian mobile number in Preferences. |
| quota | The organisation has used up its SMS allowance for the calendar month. | Wait for the next month when the allowance resets, or upgrade to a plan with a larger allowance. |
| sms-disabled | The organisation-level SMS toggle in Admin, then Settings is switched off. | Tick Enable SMS notifications for this organisation in Admin, then Settings. |
Members did not get texts: checklist
- 1Check the organisation toggle is on: Admin, then Settings, then the SMS notifications section.
- 2Check your plan includes SMS. Standard and Pro do; Free does not.
- 3Check the member has saved a mobile number on their Preferences page.
- 4Check the member has ticked the opt-in box, not just saved a number.
- 5Check the post-run summary in Admin, then Allocations for the SMS sent count and any limit-reached warning.
- 6Check the member's number is a valid Australian mobile in one of the accepted formats.
- 7If a message still fails to send, the cause is one of the four above. Reasons are checked at send time; only the monthly total is retained, so if texts keep failing for one member, work through the checklist below.
Good to know
The most common cause by far is a member who saved a number but forgot to tick the opt-in box. Both steps are needed.
